Currently, the price of Model 3 is currently about ¥ 5 million. It is more expensive than corresponding gasoline vehicles. But, you can receive about ¥ 0.4 million by utilizing government subsidy program as well as enjoy merits of various tax incentives. Each model for Japan has display(s) on the left side of the steering wheel. You can connect to the Internet by utilizing a SIM card provided by NTT docomo Inc.

Currently, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan has not approved any autopilot systems. Thus, software for the system is not installed in each model while hardwares itself have already been implemented. According to the PIC, the software would be downloaded following the future approval by the MLIT. Accordingly, any models on sale can be equipped with the autopilot functions in the future. However, each model for Japan has already had drive-assisting function enabling to maintain lanes or adjust speed on highways etc. According to the PIC, the system also enable handicapped persons or elderly persons to drive more safely.

Japanese automakers also keep developing autopilot systems. However, the PIC said that Tesla has great advantages over these companies. It is because that Tesla can utilize the big data obtained by implementing the function in actual electric vehicles (EVs) in the United States.

According to the latest reports, Tesla is making numerous efforts to streamline EV production. The PIC in Minami Aoyama said that they may release the smaller models at lower prices in the future.

As for battery-related performance, Model 3 is able to drive over 400 km on a single full charge. It can be charged from a household outlet as long as it is grounded. Charging equipments are now available in highway’s rest areas. But, high-voltage high-speed charging equipments are not common in Japan. Tesla Japan is currently doing their best efforts to popularize the high-speed charging equipments.
